My attempt at the 55-word fiction

Decided to try my hand at the new fad that seems to be going around… the 55 word fiction post. Man, the effort it takes to cut the post down from 99 to 55! Especially the 60 to 55 cut is the worst because you just can’t seem to know which word to eliminate! But here it is finally! Hurrah! :-P

“It’s my wedding anniversary. I’m leaving early!” he declared. His colleagues stared & shook their heads.

After buying a flower bouquet en route, he reached promptly and walked in through the gates.

She was inside, resting. On the headstone was engraved: ‘Sanjana Mathew 1971-2007, RIP.’

He placed the bouquet on her grave and whispered: “Happy anniversary dear…”

True love never dies !!

@Rashmi

revealing the suspence at the last bit forms the true beauty of 55 word stories..thats what i believe!
and yes, romantically cliched as it sounds, i agree... true love never dies! :-)

@ki

sheesh! when somebody says she WANTS to learn something, LET her!! lol kidding. thanks sweets :-)
but that apart, i learnt the art of keeping suspence till almost the last line from u only. so there! :P

awesome ...so much conveyed in just 55 words..
Been planning to write this stuff but its a lot hard for me considering the fact that my first story which was supposed to end in one page ended up being a four part novel :D

Ashwathy said...

@Nautankey

really??! (rising five feet into the air lol)

@Praveen

i've enabled comment moderation on my site now..so mayb thats why ur comment didnt appear immediately. or was there a previous one that disappeared altogether?
LOL i completely understand ur predicament! welcome to the club! i m just as bad. (if u dont believe it, see how long my very first post is.) so what i did was think of a theme first, express it into words the shortest length possible and then chop away to glory! good luck! i'm sure u'll come up with something urself soon :-)
