This is just my humble attempt at fiction :-)
The sun dipped low on the horizon. The smell of the sea was in the humid air.
He sat at the edge of the precipe, taking it all in. He loved watching the sunet with her at the cliff. Of course 'watch' was from his mind's eye. He had lost vision from both eyes when he was a kid.
His world had been turned upside when he realised that his vision had begun to blur. His mother had frantically taken him to doctor after doctor, but with no effect. By the age of 13 he was partially blind and by 15 his world had turned completely dark. Over time he had turned bitter and withdrawn into his shell. His friends left him one by one. He became difficult to deal with and his parents found it difficult to manage him.
He was bitter and on the verge of being abandoned at a care-home...
when she came into his life. She became the miracle in his life. She was patient and caring. She listened to him like no one else did. And she loved him for what he was, no questions asked. She was gentle with him where others were callous, and she was content to just be in his company. He knew she was beautiful when others exclaimed the same, but in his mind's eye he could see her lovely eyes shining with love for him.
And she went on to become the reason he wanted to live again. To break free, to enjoy life all over again. He was no longer alone...
As he sat at the edge of the precipe with his arm around her, he felt safe.
The sun had set and it was time to go. He turned to her: "Shall we go?"
She didn't respond but moved out of his arms. He could feel her walking away from him.
Confused,he stood up and called her name. He felt her pause.
He whistled.
She came bounding back to him and curled up at his feet.
He smiled: "Lazy bones, we have to go back. Now let's move, girl !"
She obediently wagged her tail, stood up and began to guide the way for him.
P.S.: Dedicated to all dog-lovers. If you haven't loved a dog, you don't know what you are missing. Truly so. :-)

Interesting story Ash... couldn't guess the end... :)
pets company is really a boon for sure.. :)
it reminded me of a story of R.K.Narayan's 'the blind dog' which is more dark in tone... have you read that???
Good One, Ashwathy! As kanagu said,the end was totally surprising:-)
Keep Writing!
p.s. will be posting some sea pictures soon :-)
hmmmmm..not bad at all! You've to try your hand at the fiction stuff more IMHO. It was good :)
For a moment I thought the 'she' was a nurse. :P
@kanagu
you couldnt guess the end? awesome! :-) so the story's turned out well! :D
true...pets are a blessing! :-)
no I havent read that... more dark in tone meaning? generally or with a sad ending as well?
@wanderlust
thanks :-)
yes yes pls post them soon! pics of the sea are always awesome!
@scorpiogenius
I used to write a lot of fiction in my earlier days :-) now have settled for my blog and am content with it... Maybe I should restart after all!
Haha I know... it wud seem as if 'she' is a caretaker or a nurse... :D
Wow! Gr8 story .. awesome ending! I guessed it must be some nice loving care-taker :)
I had a pup for 2 months, which I was forced to give up, due to so many reasons. And I still feel guilty for it.
This story brought back all the love I had for that little one - it still amazes me how much the dog changed inside me in that 2 months.
Lovely story !!! Loved it so much !!! :)
BTW, what happened to your shift to WP ??? You said that account has been created. So when ???
@Swaram
haha :D yes... seems like it na!
@umsreflections
if you've ever loved a pet, u cant forget it :-) as simple as that.
haha move to WP is no time soon. i m pretty comfy with blogspot as of now... :-)
I accidently read that dog lovers bit at the end before even I could read the story ! :D :D :D :D
@vimmuuu
nashipichu!!!!!
I was wondering what kind of crack comment u can come up with for a lovely story like this... and u just did!!! pah! X(
Ash, where's my comment gone, while your reply to my comment is there ??? (Rolling my eyes, to search more)
@ Ashwathy : lovely story ??? you saying it yourself ???? whatever happened to the thing called modesty ???? :D :D :D :D
Now, thats a crack comment, isnt it ???
@umsreflections
sheesh! thats weird!
the number of comments in the comments section seems to include urs, but when I expand it to see the comments, urs is missing. and there is no comment moderation enabled yet either!!! (rolling eyes some more)
@vimmuuu
nah thats a normal comment ... :D
u r saying i shud be modest and shudnt try self-praise. fair enuff!
but when u kill the story even before u read it properly, THAT is unfair :(
As for 'lovely' story bit...it was no praise to ME, just the concept! I was referring to the concept where the guide dog becomes his inspiration for life and is loyal to him... which is touching since humans cant be that loyal. Especially at a time when close friends who get married drop out of the radar completely making u wonder if they are even alive.... :D :D :D u cant expect that much out of ur best friends even... and yet that poor little dog did so much for the guy when least expected... THAT is what makes it a lovely story.
AND THAT, my dear, is a crack comment!!! :D :D :D got it?
beautiful!
Like Vimmuuu, have read the dog lovers bit in the middle of the story :(
but hadn't i read that part, i would have said i liked it very much..
Keep going Ash!!
@25BAR
thank you :-)
@Mystery
aw damn! :-/ u shudn't have! vimmuuu is a bad example to follow! lol :P
im scared of dogs!once whn i was a kid this huge dog sprang upon me and scratched my legs and i didnt even see the doctor coz i was scared tht i would have to get those 10 injections on my belly!
Luckily im still alive and i dint go mad :P so i generally tend to keep away frm dogs after tht incident hehe
@Rakesh
still alive: yes
didnt go mad: umm... well...
depends on perspective!!! ;-) :D :D
hehehe
that must have been some stray dog or so. u have to know the love and care of a loving pet dog :-) truly heartwarming...

Here from Uma's blog....
@Shilpa
welcome to my blog :-)
I know what u mean... the vacuum is huge once the pet is no longer around. I have a pet who is 13 yrs now and it greatly saddens me to realise that it will be his last few years :-(
awwww Ash..this is so cute! Asa doglover a mad , mad one, I loved the story:)
my lil fourlegeed baby is a loon :D

@Indyeah
All four legged babies are loons, I tell ya! :D :D It's soooo much fun being with one...
Hmm :-) thanks! Maybe I should!
Love this beautiful, beautiful post Ashwathy!! I love dogs but I am sure if I didn't I would have started loving the dog-human relationship after reading this post!
I had come looking for your post about your grand dad...
@indianhomemaker
dog-human relationship is worth its weight in gold/diamond/platinum... ah, never mind, its priceless :-)
Awww.. didn't see that coming. A very good post, for 'first time fiction' Ash :-) Looking forward to more :-)))
@Writerzbloc
thanks :-)
it wasnt exactly the first fiction I ever wrote :P even in my blog, there are those 55-ers...completely fiction.
Even then... need to brush up on my fiction writing skills! :P lol
That was a nice ending :) Nice attempt at fiction. I couldnt guess the ending at all. And the p.s. I have always hated dogs :( Like you said, I don't know what it's like to love a dog.
Aaaah, that is beautiful! You have such a lovely style of writing!
Read it again - loved it. You may like to send it to India collection of Cicken Soup for friends....
@indianhomemaker
thanks :-) thats quite high praise i say...
need to think of some better ideas now! lol...
Hey Ash, where are you?
@Emm
roadblock with ideas...
was thinking of uploading some photos instead this time round...
You really get to know what is 'Unconditional' love through dogs!! I really wish God had designed humans without the ability to distinguish between good and bad! But still, I like cats more. I love their attitude. I like even crows. Actually I like any animal that doesn't give a damn to a human walking by :D
Destination Infinity
@DI
thats a completely different perspective i say :D
Photos are always good. They can say so muh and can pull us out of our locks.
